Pokemon Ranger

The game is set in the Fiore region, a region not seen in the mainline Pokémon games. Players choose to play a male or female Ranger and join the Pokémon Rangers, an organisation that works to maintain peace between humans and Pokémon. You are a rookie Ranger, stationed at Ranger School and Fall City, where you become involved in an escalating conflict with Team Go-Rock, a radical group intent on capturing and exploiting Pokémon for their own ends. In their adventure, players travel through different locations of Fiore – forests, deserts, ranches and mountains – where they recruit Pokémon partners and discover the evil plans of Team Go-Rock, and finally face the leader of Team Go-Rock to save Fiore’s fragile harmony between humans and Pokémon.

Pokémon Ranger moves away from traditional battling and instead uses a unique capturing mechanic that utilises the Nintendo DS’s touchscreen: Capture Styler Mechanic: Use the stylus to draw circles (loops) around wild Pokémon to gradually befriend them, all the while avoiding their attacks. Temporary Partners: Captured Pokemon become temporary members of your team, and can be used to solve environmental puzzles (e.g. Pikachu clears electrical barriers, Corphish cuts vines). Missions & Quests: Complete Ranger missions for the Ranger Union to progress the story and unlock new areas. Browser System: Make notes about types and abilities of Pokemon you catch in your in-game Browser. Boss battles – use advanced catching techniques to battle powerful wild Pokémon and Team Go-Rock members. It’s also one of the most unique touchscreen experiences in the Pokémon series, with its fully stylus-driven gameplay.

At the start of the game you create your Ranger, by choosing a name and character appearance. Move your character by tapping the destination on the touchscreen map with the stylus. Approach a wild Pokémon and press and hold the stylus down to run circles around it repeatedly. Release and change your loop pattern to prevent the Pokémon from counter-attacking. Once the capture gauge is full, the Pokémon will join your team temporarily to help you solve puzzles and battle. Use the special abilities of the captured Pokémon to clear the path before you. Complete story missions and Ranger Union-issued side-quests to progress through Fiore. Engage Team Go-Rock operatives in key story battles using strategic capturing.

You can now download your emulator of choice (melonDS, DeSmuME, DraStic or RetroArch) from its romlibrary.com. Install the emulator – Follow the on screen setup instructions of your OS. Setup BIOS files (melonDS/DeSmuME requirement). Follow the official documentation of the emulator. Load your legally-owned game file into the emulator via the “Open ROM” or “Load Game” menu. Enable touch screen/mouse input mode. Pokemon Ranger requires precise stylus-like control to catch Pokemon. Set resolution, frame skip and audio settings for smooth running.
