Trials and Tribulations wraps up the story of defense attorney Phoenix Wright, but also looks back, with two of the game’s five episodes being flashback cases featuring Mia Fey, Phoenix’s mentor, in the early days of her legal career. Set in the present day, Phoenix is pitted against a mysterious new rival prosecutor known only as Godot, whose link to Phoenix’s past is gradually revealed during the game’s three contemporary episodes. This story wraps up loose ends from the first two games, but also comes to a very personal conclusion for Phoenix and the Fey family. Familiar faces show up along the way including Phoenix's spirit-medium assistant Maya Fey, and her young cousin Pearl Fey.

Trials and Tribulations retains the same structure of gameplay as the first two Ace Attorney games, and divides each case into two phases: investigation and trial. Don't rush the cross-examinations. Read the statement thru and consider what isn't making sense before pressing or offering evidence. When a Psyche-Lock appears, make sure to have the right evidence in hand before attempting to break it -- wrong guesses cost you. Watch for flashback cases - what happens in Mia’s early career has direct bearing on the current day story.
