Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

The story begins with the time-machine demonstration of Professor E. Gadd going wrong and the mysterious transportation of Princess Peach's castle into the past. Mario and Luigi go back in time to save her, but find the past Mushroom Kingdom has been invaded by the Shroobs, an alien race intent on conquering both timelines. In their travels Mario and Luigi meet their baby selves, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, who are already fighting to protect Baby Peach from the Shroob threat. The four heroes team up and travel between the past and present to seal the rifts that the Shroobs are using to invade, eventually going to the source of the Shroob invasion to save both eras of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time takes the series’ classic timing-based, turn-based battle system and adds a unique twist – four playable heroes across two different time periods: Four-Character Battles: In battle, control Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, adult Mario and adult Luigi all at once, each with different jump and hammer attacks. Action Commands: Hitting buttons at the right time increases the amount of damage you inflict and you can dodge or counter enemy attacks as they occur. Bros Attacks Special combo attacks that require the player to press all four buttons in a specific order. Time Travel Puzzles: Complete field puzzles that need to be completed by doing something in one time period and having an effect in the other (say like baby Mario paving the way for adult Mario to pass through the same spot years later). Piggyback Mechanic: Babies can ride on their adult counterparts’ shoulders, adding more platforming and interaction options when exploring. Overworld Exploration: Explore classic and new Mushroom Kingdom areas across both timelines, avoiding visible enemies to initiate battle.

Start a New Game and watch the intro cutscene, where Mario and Luigi watch Professor E. Gadd's demonstration of his time machine. Control all four Bros in the field - D-Pad moves the group, individual buttons control each character's action (jump, hammer). Explore the present and past Mushroom Kingdom and travel through time portals. When touching an enemy on the field, it will lead to a turn based battle with all 4 heroes. Battle commands: use Action Commands (well-timed button presses) to increase attack damage and defend against incoming attacks. Once unlocked, Execute Bros Attacks can be chained over all four characters for devastating combo damage. Create a world where your baby or adult heroes can interact with the environment in one age to affect the other age, solving time-based field puzzles. Progress through story chapters, defeating Shroob bosses, until you reach the final confrontation.

Download the emulator (melonDS, DeSmuME, DraStic or RetroArch) of your choice from romlibrary.com. Install the emulator for your operating system by following the on screen setup instructions. Configure BIOS files (needed for melonDS/DeSmuME) following the official documentation of the emulator. Open the “Open ROM” or “Load Game” menu of the emulator and load your legally-owned game file. Set the resolution, frame skip and audio for best performance; low input lag is good for precise Action Command timing.
