The Legend of Zeld Phantom Hourglass is an action-adventure game for the Nintendo DS developed and published by Nintendo. Released in North America on October 1, 2007, it is a continuation of the story and visual style established in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Players assume the role of Link, who sails across a mysterious ocean searching for Tetra and the secrets of the Phantom Hourglass. The game was designed around the touchscreen of the Nintendo DS, letting players move Link, aim weapons, interact with objects, draw paths, take notes on maps, and solve puzzles with the stylus. Exploration is done on islands, dungeons and open waters, gathering equipment and abilities necessary for progression. There’s also a two player battle mode and sailing mechanics that make the Great Sea part of the adventure. Nintendo calls Phantom Hourglass the first Zelda game designed for the Nintendo DS, and points to the stylus-based gameplay.
