The story follows Kitty White, who leaves her comfortable home in Sanrio Town to pursue a new life in The Big City. Her starting point is a modest ground-floor flat in downtown but her ambition is to climb the ladder to a swanky penthouse suite. For this, kitty will have to walk around the city, meet new characters in the neighbourhood, make friends and earn Friendship Points, the main currency of the game, which she will use to: Shop new fashion & apparel Decorate and fix up her flat Ride the bus or train around town Her dream of penthouse living comes true Socialising is important too, Kitty has to check her in-game mail regularly to maintain her friendships.

Hello Kitty: Big City Dreams offers two core modes of play: 1. Exploration Mode: Using the DS stylus, you guide Kitty through a fully 3D city — walking the streets, entering shops, riding public transport, and interacting with NPCs. This mode is all about discovery and free movement. 2. Mini-Games: Walking into specific locations triggers one of 16 different mini-games, including activities like: Dancing Waiting tables at a café Fashion/styling challenges Shop-related tasks Each completed mini-game rewards Friendship Points, which tie directly into your long-term progress — upgrading Kitty's apartment, unlocking new outfits, and eventually affording that penthouse. Basic Gameplay Loop: Explore the city map using the stylus. Trigger a mini-game by visiting a themed location. Complete the mini-game to earn Friendship Points. Spend points on outfits, decor, and transport. Check mail to maintain friendships. Repeat and progress toward the penthouse goal.
