Terminator 2: Judgment Day is an action game released in 1991–1992 by LJN/Bethesda Softworks, based on the hit movie, for the NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, Game Boy and other home consoles. An 8-bit version exists for the NES/Master System, and a more advanced 16-bit version for the Genesis/SNES. The player controls the reprogrammed T-800, fighting thru side-scrolling beat-'em-up and racing levels to protect John Connor from the shape-shifting T-1000. Another equally famous title offers a different first-person shooting experience based on the same movie: Midway's on-rails arcade shooter, later ported as T2: The Arcade Game. This guide is mainly for the console side-scrolling version that is most often emulated today.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day ROM Download Story

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is an exact replica of James Cameron's 1991 film. In the film, a T-800 model Terminator is sent back thru time by the human resistance and reprogrammed to protect a young John Connor from the T-1000 — a far more advanced, liquid-metal Terminator sent by Skynet to kill him before he can grow up to lead humanity's fight against the machines. The game takes players thru major set pieces from the film: an early bar brawl with bikers to steal a Harley-Davidson and leather jacket, a high-speed motorcycle chase to get to John Connor before the T-1000's rig catches him, the daring rescue of Sarah Connor from a mental institution, and finally the climactic raid on Cyberdyne Systems and showdown at the steel mill where the T-1000 meets its end in molten steel. The third level introduces a moral aspect in line with the film's themes: bashing human enemies (SWAT officers, etc.) unconscious is rewarded with superior weapons, reflecting the T-800's programming not to kill humans.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day ROM Download Gameplay

For most of its five levels, Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up/shooter hybrid, with one standout racing stage. Features of the game: Side-scrolling combat levels – Most levels have the T-800 fighting off enemies with melee attacks, pistols, shotguns and explosives found along the way. Isometric motorcycle chase (Level 2) - A unique racing stage where the player must catch up to John Connor's moped while fending off the pursuing T-1000 in his tow truck (not present on Master System and Game Gear versions). Non-lethal combat system – From Level 3 onward, the T-800 is programd not to kill human enemies; incapacitating them without lethal force rewards weapon upgrades at the end of each level. On-screen targeting display: A HUD helps with aiming, like the T-800's 'terminator vision' from the movie. Arsenal of weapons – Players start with basic attacks, and as the game progresses, they unlock a lever-action rifle, shotgun, and explosives. Boss battles – Leads to a final battle with the T-1000 at the steel mill, echoing the climax of the movie.

How to Play Terminator 2: Judgment Day ROM Download

Know what each level is trying to achieve – Unlike a simple brawler, some levels (such as the motorcycle chase) require a completely different style of gameplay than the usual side-scrolling fighting. Try to do non-lethal takedowns from Level 3 onward – Killing human enemies means you will miss out on weapon upgrade rewards at the end of the level. Collect weapons along the way – In later levels, you can’t just rely on close-combat attacks. Whenever the opportunity arises, pick up guns and explosives. Use the targeting display for several enemies - “Engage nearest enemy” means engage threats that are close to attack. Learn the motorcycle chase pattern – The racing part of Level 2 is one of the hardest parts of the game and really benefits from repetition and learning the route. Use explosives for the tough stuff – Don't waste your high-damage weapons on normal waves, keep them for boss fights and heavily armored foes.
