Contra 4 Story

In 2638, a hostile group known as the Black Viper unleashes a deadly bio-weapon on Earth called the "Cyborg Process" which can convert humans into a machine-organism hybrid. Returning to the battlefield to stop this threat are series veterans Bill Rizer and Lance Bean. Players must battle through waves of alien and robotic enemies to reach Black Viper's base and defeat the final boss.

Contra 4 Gameplay

Contra 4 is a side scrolling run and gun, where you go from left to right through each level. The two Nintendo DS screens work together — as the character moves up or down, the camera shifts between both screens, requiring players to track action across both displays. There are different weapons (Spread Gun, Machine Gun, Laser, Homing Missiles) that can be picked up as temporary power-ups, and have their own firing patterns. The game is notorious for its hard difficulty – one hit will kill you, just like old school Contra. At the end of each level there are boss battles with pattern based attacks – learning the patterns of the enemy is key to survival. Limited lives and continues add to the challenge, encouraging players to master level layouts and enemy placements. A co-op mode is also available, letting two players fight through the campaign together for a more strategic, teamwork-based experience.
