The story is set in a magical land where a war of good and evil is taking place. Dark spirits sent by an evil witch destroy the forests. Desperate the ancient and wise spirits of the woods shoot a sacred arrow into the sky - whoever finds it will have the power to defeat the darkness and destroy the witch. Your character accepts this quest and leaves the frozen palace grounds to face hordes of monsters and to wrest the land from the witch’s curse.

Outside the Ice Palace is a 2D scroller. You start with 9 lives and 3 big levels each ending with a boss fight. Core mechanics: Each level is populated with enemies and monsters that block your way and must be attacked with your main weapon, daggers thrown horizontally. You can pick up additional weapons and bonus orbs along the way. In addition, players can acquire a spirit to fight with them in the worst parts of a level. There are design similarities with Ghosts 'n Goblins, including the varied weapon pickup system. Newbie tips: Remember to save your extra lives for the boss battles at the end of each of the three levels as the density of enemies increases greatly near those points. Try to pick up alternate weapons if possible, instead of daggers, which have generally better range or damage. Don’t use your summoned-spirit ability too early – save it for those tricky vertical platforming sections, or a dense wave of enemies. Remember where enemies spawn, many 1988 platformers will respawn enemies at the same fixed points on each subsequent attempt.

Select the original platform version that you want to emulate. Have a working emulator installed. Load the game image in the emulator. Set up the keyboard or controller. New Game. Pass thru the levels, fight enemies. Collect weapons and useful objects. Use Spirits of the Forest during hard encounters. Defeat the bosses of the levels and reach the end of the game.

Step 2 – Play the Game: Start the emulator and navigate to the correct game image in the emulator’s file browser.
