Tomodachi Collection is a Nintendo DS life and social simulation game in which players create Mii characters and place them on a small island where they live out their daily lives. Players can create characters based on themselves, friends, family members, or completely fictional personalities, then customize their appearance, personality, and voice. The Miis interact with one another independently, forming friendships, having disagreements, falling in love, and developing different relationships. Players can visit their residents, listen to their problems, give them presents, and observe how their relationships change over time. There's no specific goal or traditional end, but the game encourages players to decide how they want to manage and observe their island community. The original game was released only in Japan for Nintendo DS on June 18, 2009.

Tomodachi Collection (v01) Story

Tomodachi Collection has no traditional story, linear or otherwise. Rather, the player creates a community of Mii characters and watches their lives play out on an island. Miis can become friends, argue, get romantic, ask the player for help, and do a variety of other things. The player can respond to their requests, give them items, and affect aspects of their daily life. In particular, Nintendo states that the game has no goal, allowing players to focus on increasing resident happiness, collecting items, or simply observing the Mii community.

Tomodachi Collection (v01) Gameplay

The main game play is managing and viewing a community of Mii characters. Players can create residents and customize their appearance, personality, and voice. These characters are in interaction with each other once they are put on the island. Players may enter apartments, listen to problems, give gifts, participate in activities and observe the development of relationships. The game plays out in real-time, allowing the island’s residents to continue to develop their own routines and relationships.
