Professor Layton and the Curious Village Story

The story follows brilliant puzzle-solving archaeologist Professor Hershel Layton and his young apprentice Luke Triton as they travel to the mysterious village of St. Mystere. The summons is to examine the will of Baron Reinhold, who has left the sum of his vast fortune – the fabled “Golden Apple” – to whoever can solve the village’s greatest mystery. Layton and Luke arrive in the town of St. Mystere, where they find that almost every inhabitant speaks only in riddles and puzzles. The town itself holds a deep, bizarre secret connected to the Baron's death, and the true nature of the village.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village Gameplay

The game is all about point and click exploration, and a large library of stand-alone logic puzzles. Puzzles are rated by difficulty and reward players with Picarats on correct completion, promoting a completionist playstyle. Gameplay is centered around the touch-screen and stylus – nearly every puzzle is solved with direct touch input and drawing or dragging elements around. Most puzzles can be attempted as many times as you like without ending the game, but you will lose a little bit of Picarats for getting them wrong multiple times. Some puzzles are part of the main story and have to be solved to progress, where many other puzzles are side-content that can be optionally solved for full completion. The game’s art style is hand-drawn and storybook-like, and animated cutscenes further the game’s whimsical, mystery-driven tone. There’s a secret minigame in the background of the playthrough called “Granny Riddleton’s Tea Party,” and players who feed it and play with it regularly are rewarded.
