Cooking Mama 3 is a cooking simulation and minigame collection for the Nintendo DS. The game sequel expands on the series’ touchscreen cooking mechanics with more than 80 recipes and approximately 200 cooking-centered minigames. The game was released in Europe on November 13, 2009. Players use the Nintendo DS touchscreen and stylus to perform individual kitchen actions such as preparing ingredients, chopping, mixing, cooking, and assembling dishes. In addition to the traditional making of recipes, it also adds new activities into the game such as an activity of selecting ingredients and discovering what can be made from them, and an activity of shopping which requires players to remember and buy ingredients from a list. Cooking Mama 3 has up to four player local multiplayer via Nintendo DS wireless functionality and has several different game modes.

Unlike the main series, Cooking Mama 3 doesn't feature a traditional story-driven campaign. Instead, the experience is focused on Mama guiding the player through cooking tasks and various challenges. Players cook dishes by following a set of instructions and completing a series of touchscreen minigames. To succeed, you have to do things in the kitchen right, and at the right time. The game is more than just cooking, it's about shopping and creating recipes from ingredients.
