Cooking Mama is a cooking simulation game for the Nintendo DS focused on short, touchscreen-based cooking activities. Players carry out a range of kitchen tasks to prepare a selection of dishes, including chopping, slicing, peeling, grating, mixing, kneading, frying, mashing and arranging food. The game includes 76 recipes and more than 200 individual Touch Screen minigames, giving each recipe a sequence of interactive cooking actions. Players can earn awards based on their performance and combine recipes to create different dishes. The Nintendo DS stylus acts as the primary cooking tool, while the built-in microphone can be used for certain actions such as cooling hot food. In practice mode, players can decide what they want to make and try out different cooking methods. The game also supports recipe sharing through DS wireless functionality. Cooking Mama was developed by Office Create and originally released for Nintendo DS in 2006.

Cooking Mama Story

Cooking Mama does not have a traditional story campaign. Instead, players get to take on the role of an aspiring chef who develops dishes under Mama’s guidance. Each recipe is divided into different cooking tasks. Players must follow the instructions and perform actions accurately to prepare the dish. At the end, Mama evaluates the result, with performance contributing to awards and progression.

Cooking Mama Gameplay

The meat of the game is short touchscreen cooking mini-games. Depending on the recipe players may be required to chop vegetables, slice ingredients, peel food, grate items, mix ingredients, knead dough, fry food in a pan, mash ingredients or arrange the finished dish. Cooking actions are evaluated after each step and accuracy and timing are important. Players can also combine recipes and use Practice Mode to try out different dishes.
