Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Story

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games eschews the deep storylines of traditional Mario or Sonic titles for a light narrative wrapper. The premise is pretty basic: Characters from the Mushroom Kingdom and Sonic have teamed up to compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, putting aside their usual rivalries (including the classic Mario vs. Bowser and Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman rivalries) for some friendly competition in athletics. Players select from a roster of favourite characters including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Eggman and compete in dozens of official Olympic sporting events, trying to break records, win medals and prove which character (and which gaming universe) is the best in friendly competition.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Gameplay

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS version) has a large collection of touchscreen and stylus-controlled sporting events, different from the motion-controlled Wii version: Events include: Athletics (100m, hurdles, long jump), Swimming, Table Tennis, Archery, Fencing, Gymnastics and many more. Action by Stylus: Most of the action is done by tapping, swiping or circling with the stylus in a rhythmic fashion rather than the traditional buttons. Character Stats: Each character has different speed, power, skill and stamina stats which will influence their performance in the different events. Single Event & Circuit Modes: Play individual events for quick matches or compete across multiple events in Circuit mode to earn medals and unlock content. Multiplayer: Local wireless multiplayer, head to head competition. Mission Mode Special challenge missions related to certain events, for extra rewards and unlockables.
